I have a family in the 1881 census that has Isabella COLLEN as a Mother In Law (Married) and a Visitor. Not knowing her madien name, where she lives, her husbands name, how can I track her down?
Cheers

Hi Judy,
Have you tried looking for other Collens, a married man of the right age without a wife at home, starting in the same area?
You could try to find her marriage or the birth of her daughter who married the head of the household you were looking at or the daughter's marriage.
Why don't you post more details of names, ages and places and someone may be able to trace them for you?
Regards, Valerie.

Hello Judy
I think I may have part of the answer.???
Peter McCreesh m Mary Daglish Mar quarter 1866 Gateshead
Mary Daglish b 1850 Gateshead dau of James and Isabella---her birth cert would confirm parents.
So, looks like Isabella remarried.
????
There is a James Daglish m Isabella Wheatley 1844 Heworth Durham???
There is an Isabella Wheatley b 1821 Gateshead dau of William and Mary???

Looks like Dorothy may have got the answer.
Peter McCreesh was born in 1841, in Ireland, Mary in 1849 in Gateshead, so the marriage in 1866 in Gateshead sounds good. Hence James and Isabella as parents with Isabella remarrying sounds good. Also, Isabella was born in Gateshead in 1825 according to the census, so 1821 is close.
Wow what help!!! That really spurs me on with my research. I will now see if I can get a death record for James and a remarriage for Isabella. THANKS VERY MUCH :D :D :D
