I can't find him on the 1881 at familysearch. He's on the 1901 but, apparently, doesn't exist in 1881. He was born in Rainford, St Helens, in 1853. Can anyone help please?

Thanks Peter, but he shows as being 48 in 1901 so he can't be 17 in 1881. Thanks anyway, he might be some relation.

What do you reckon to this then? William doesn't seem to exist in Rainord in 1881, so, in desparation, I searched every town in Lancashire and came up with this: Household:
Name Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation Disability
Henry WHITE
Head M Male 72 Garstang, Lancashire, England Pauper
Ann WHITE
Wife O Female 67 Chorley, Lancashire, England Charwoman
William WHITE
Son U Male 28 Chorley, Lancashire, England Gen Lab

Is it him? There are no other William Whites of the same age. If it is him, where does Rainford come into it?

Hi sunny,
There are two other William Whites on the 1881 census. One is married and living in Liverpool with his wife Mary A. - not quite your Mary Jane. I found them by searching for White born in Lancashire in 1853 - there were 62 of them.
Where was he living in 1901?

He was living in Balmer St in Thatto Heath, St Helens. He gave his place of birth as Rainford.
