Hi List,
Can anyone help me with the 1841 census.
I am looking for an John JORDAN, married, wife unknown.
he may have been born Ireland, ocupation Fitter.
He did have children but the only one known of was a
son called Edward whose date of birth is unknown but possibly abt 1852/3
I have no information on John and his family for any Census so can't offer supporting information.
I have taken what information I have from his son Edward's marriage certificate in 1877 and Edward gave his address as
40 (?48)Renshaw Street, Liverpool. Place of marriage St Philips Church in the Parish of Liverpool.
The information I have is scant but if any one can throw any light on this family I would be very grateful.
Thanks and good luck in your own research,
Anne

Thanks Eddie,
This does help!
It clarifies who I thought was their first born, Henry.
I also have a further address to keep an eye on for future births.
Thanks Eddie.........I am so pleased I didn't delete the post!
Good luck in your own research,

Hi Margaret,
Many thanks for this information....another step forward!
Must have been a rather large house for all these inhabitants!
or maybe the usual doubling up!
I see the family was growing, I think there was one more on the way called Christina.
I met her in my early years just once by accident. We were not allowed to see her due to severe disfigurement from burns she received as a child. My Aunt Matilda remained a spinster and looked after Christine until Matilda collapsed at 87 years of age. Eventually the truth came out as it does when family lore starts to contradict itself. Christine had Teretts Syndrome in todays language. Sad to be hidden away because they didn't understand the problem.
Thanks for helping me find their journey through the streets of Liverpool.

Hello Anne, I was actually trying to track down your John JORDAN, but I don't have sufficient information on him yet. I tried to find him in the 1871, but couldn't pin him down. I felt as long as I had Edward on the 1891 I might as well post the information. As you have Edward's marriage certificate, could you let us know the rest of the details--the names of the witnesses, and whether or not the fathers were listed as deceased? It sounds as both fathers were still alive in 1877, but I want to make certain before I try to go through the 1861 or before.

Hi again Margaret,
Thank you so much for your interest.
It is truly appreciated.
I have the Marriage certificate for the eldest of the three Edward Jordans
St Philips Church in the parish of Liverpool. (Catherine Street)
Certificate 84
Married after Banns
October 17th 1877
Edward Jordan 24 yrs(b. abt 1853),
Bachelor, Fitter, 40(48) Renshaw Street,
son of John Jordan, Fitter
Edward made his signature
Married to
Margaret Taylor, 22yrs (b. abt 1855)
spinster, 40(48) Renshaw Street,
dau of Samuel Taylor, Corn Porter.
Margaret made her mark
Witness 1
Thomas Johnson, signed his signature
Witness 2
Ann Alice Jump, made her Mark.
I do not recognise the name Thomas Johnson
I do have some recollection that I have seen a photo of an Ann Alice
in the family albums some time ago. Unfortunately I have nothng further than this on the name Jump. All relatives that may have known are now deceased.
Neither Edward nor Margarets fathers had deceased net to their name.
I am laughing.....in the brackets on reviewing my post to you the number 48 should be in brackets but they have added a smiley!
The address is either of the two numbers. Some zero's have a line through and sometimes it is easy to mistake it for an eight! To be on the safe side I have put both.
Margaret I hope this info is of help.
With grateul thanks for your interest and research,
Anne
