Would appreciate it if someone could check the London/Middlesex 1901 in case the missing Harry is either back from the Boer War then or hasn't yet left for Africa. Although, if he's in the London area, why he might appear here when he doesn't appear on the online 1901 is beyond me........

He's missing from the 1891 as well. Thanks for any help. Jojo

Hi, Susie: Thanks for looking. I'm beginning to think Harry was larking about somewhere in hiding and picked up a uniform before he returned to Rochdale to justify his absence. LOL Seriously, maybe he's on the "overseas military" census because he isn't on any of the obvious military lists-discharges, wounded etc. Jojo

Hi, John: Thanks for looking, but my Harry was born in Rochdale (at the Flying Horse where his parents, John and Hannah, were the innkeepers). Still haven't located him in 1891/1901, or his marriage cert. or the birth cert. of his first child, also Harry, or his military records, but at least I got his wife's maiden name (BURNS) from the birth cert. of one of his other children. But that's a dead end, too, as she was from either the city or county of Cork and we all know how "easy" it is to research in Ireland. LOL Jojo

Hi! Jo Jo,

Might be a no no, but have you looked for him under the name of Henry, the reason is, I have two Harrys on my husbands side, one is still alive, and he was born Henry, so when I had problem locating another Harry, I found him also under Henry.

John: Harry's father, John, and family, came from Wardleworth actually, and his mother's family came from the Accrington/Padiham area. I did not know where Ramsbottom was located, and didn't look for it as the family names did not match.

Catherine: No, I didn't look for him under the name, Henry (except for just now on the 1901 where there were no matches). I'll try the 1891 when I next have access to it. Thanks for the tip. Jojo

Hi! Jojo,

Have found this family on the 1891 census, you say his parents are John and Hannah, slight difference in age and area Hannah was born, but that is not unusual, will send you a copy to have a look.

Harry Cunliffe age 20 born Todmorden

It is a big family so will forward it on.
