1861 Census records William Evans, b.1816 Liverpool, Coach Maker with Margaret, his wife, b. 1817 Liverpool plus daughter, Ann, b.1840 Liverpool.
living at 33 Christian Street Liverpool.
Grateful for an 1851 look up to see if the Evans family were living at the same address.
Many thanks

Hi Gerry, We have found William Evans and family in the 1851 census index, they appear not to be living in Christian Street. According to the enumerator's walk, the area covered is "All that part comprising Gerard St, Bennett St, Portland Place, east side of Byrom St from corner of Hunter St to top of street, say from corner of Richmond Row" ( vol 32, sub dist 461/7, Lime Street & St Anne's Ward, PRO piece no. 107/2185 section 1, folio 191, LDS Film 87190). In the household are William Evans/coachmaker/born Liverpool. Margaret/born Ulverston. Ann/scholar/born Liverpool. Theresa/scholar/born Liverpool. William jnr/born Liverpool. (NB no other details given) We have found William , Margaret & Ann in the 1841 census index, in another area of Liverpool, if you need these details please let us know. We hope this is helpful, Good Hunting, Heather and Gerry   PS We have just found Christian Street on our Godfrey Map number 106.10 of Liverpool North 1908. It is at the eastern end of Hunter and Gerard Streets and although Christian Street is not mentioned in the enumerator's walk, there are at least two houses on Christian St between Hunter and Gerard Streets.

Hi Heather & Gerry
This is tremendous, I really do appreciate the detail given and thank you a 1000 times! Note that 1851 says Margaret was born in Ulverston(1861 said Liverpool) but it is the correct family as the children's names link with details already known. I have found several William Evans born 1816 in Liverpool and doubt I will ever be able to find the correct one. Likewise with Margaret, it's difficult to trace back without a maiden name and certificates did not commence until 1837.
Yes, please send me the 1841 census detail. I don't think I will be able to find any more ancestors before that date.
Regards
Gerry

Hi Gerry, We are glad you found the information useful, here are the other details you asked for :- William Evans/coachsmith/age 25/ born Lancashire. Margaret Evans/age 20/born Lancashire (NB. there is an enumerators note attached to this census index, that ages were often rounded down to the nearest five years, which would explain Margaret's age not being listed as 24). Ann Evans/age 2/born Lancashire. Found in Vol 4, Bootle-cum-Linacre, Everton, piece no. HO 107/519 section 5, folio 32, LDS film 306905. Area covered, Strickland Street, Back Strickland Street, Haworth Street & Courts and Watmough Court.
We did a search in Vital Records Index and found a christening for a William Evans on 30th June 1816, at Christ Church, Hunter Street, Liverpool, Source FHL film 1068892 ( remember Hunter Street is in the area where the family was in the 1851 census) Father is Roger Evans, Mother is ANNE, ( William's first child's name Hmmmmm! coincidence or not?) We will leave you to ponder on that one, Good Hunting Heather and Gerry

Hi Heather and Gerry
I had a mailing from 'Dorothy in Florida' some 3 months ago which gave me food for thought and together with what you have sent me the jigsaw is piecing together. A Roger Evans (Coach Fitter) born in Wrexham married Ann Faresday on 13 Aug 1815 at St Nicholas Church Liverpool.
They had sons, William Evans baptised 30 Jun 1816 at Christ Church Hunter Street Liverpool and John Ferriday Evans born 1827 in Liverpool.
William Evans became a Coach Builder and his son William Ferriday Evans was also a Coach Builder. I believe this is all the same family
and that 'Faresday' could well be transcription error which in a later generation became 'Ferriday' I can find no record of Roger Evans or Ann Faresday on the LDS site. Anyway, I have a contact in Liverpool who is going to look up the 1815 marriage for me.
Many many thanks for all the help and information you have given me
without which I would never have got so far back. Tracing from the 1815 marriage is going to be difficult, there was much less detail recorded then
but some snippet may be forthcoming.
Seperately I'm sending you a pm in reply to yours.
Regards
Gerry
