Hi
The IGI records the birth of Elyder Rees, born 1838 in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire and Free BMD records his death Jun Q 1892 in Pancras, London (Vol 1b Page 77). I cannot find Elyder in 1881 and I wonder if anyone can find him in 1871?
1891 appears to find him in the Bloomsbury London Workshouse and I would be grateful for confirmation of the entry in RG12/211 Folio 146 Page 25. Was Elyder the only Rees shown?
Elyder's birth and death are recorded but nothing in between. Did he marrry, have children? 1871 may give the answer but I don't know if he was in the London area at that time.
Grateful for any help.

Hi Gerry
I have been through the entries for the Workhouse in 1891 and I found one other Rees - Constance Ada aged 52 Tailoress born Bridgewater Somerset and recorded as married, as was Elyder.
On the 1881 at 183 Malmesbury Road Bow I found
Richard M Rees Head 36 Secretary to St Luke Parochial Associaten born Pembrey Carmarthen
Julia E Rees Wife 26 born Worcester Redditch
Montague Rees Son 8 Scholar born Middlesex Chelsea
Elyder G Rees Son 1 born Middlesex Mile End
I did find a Constance A Rees aged 32 on the 1871 as a lodger with an Edward Ress aged 32. If you think this could be your Elyder I will get the rest of the information.
Regards

Hi Jenny
Thanks for your message. First of all, Richard Montague Rees was the brother of Elyder Rees and I have his history covered. 1881 shows he has a wife Julia but it turns out they did not marry until 1884. There is also another brother in London, John Vanderhorst Rees, who was the Captain of Invalids at Chelsea Hospital (Chelsea Pensioners) There is a lot of history about the Rees family who originate from Wales.
Elyder Rees is the difficult one and apart from his birth in Oct 1838 in Pembrey, Wales he has largely disappeared. The Edward you found could possibly be the Elyder I am after given the spelling variation and a 1 year age gap (Edward age 32 in 1871 would give a dob of 1839). What you have found is the nearest yet so yes I would like any additional detail found. Have you seen the workhouse entry - what does it say about Elyder?
Thanks for your interest.

Hi Gerry
The 1891 gives Elyder Rees aged 62 Married Solicitor's Clerk born South Wales Carmarthen.
Constance Ada Rees is 52 Married Tailoress born Bridgewater Somerset.
Elyder's age of 62 in 1891 would make his birth date around 1829 which is 10 years out on what you give in your posting.
In 1871 Constance A Rees, born Bridgend Somerset, is living at 35 Parkfield Street St Mary Islington Finsbury with George E Rees aged 32 - his occupation is engraver which is a big career change from solicitor's clerk. His birth place is given as Carmarthen.
I'll have a look and see if I can find Constance on the 1881 and come back to you.

Gerry
I have had a look at the 1881 and Constance Rees is living at 1 Robert Street St George Westminster with Edgar Rees whose birth place is given as Llanelly S. Wales.
Doesn't look as if this is of any help, does it?

Hi Jenny
Thanks for your message and it does not look like the man I am after. Elyder's whereabouts in census returns is an enigma. The death of Elyder Rees JunQ 1892 age 53 (Pancras Vol 1b Page 77) fits his dob but all other records just don't seem to be available.
