JOHN BILLINGE of SALOP

I am trying to trace JOHN BILLINGE who appears in the Liverpool 1881 & 1901 census and also married in Liverpool 1869, all documents say he was born in SALOP, Shropshire about 1847 but I can't find his birth or death. I would be grateful for any help.

Have found John Billinge and his family in the 1871 census and he states he was born in Liverpool, goes to show we can't believe all that we read.
