Hi Wendy......This family have proved very elusive...Thought i had found them in Tunstall in 1861 (mother was a widow) whole family were Brushmakers..but the same family in 1851 had the father as David Davies....so thats put them out of the scene..
In 1871..John had married my GtGtGrandmother Martha and had my GtGrandmother Elizabeth aged 3..they were in Bury,Lancs..
This is the only census that gives John's exact place of birth..and would'ent you believe it..the enumerator has put a black line through most of that !..Looks like it could be Tean ?? (RG10-3954 folio 116..12 Cecil St.Bury)
On the 1881..John and Martha are in Oldham..but have just Staffordshire down as place of birth....(the enumerator at this time had Martha as born Staffordshire..in actual fact she was born in the Channel Islands..Guernsey...
By 1891.......no sign of either John or Martha.....my GtGrandmother had married and the 2 youngest daughters were living with 2 of Martha's sisters..looks like John and Martha were dead..
By the way the 1871 is the only time i have seen the family name as Davis not Davies.........
So there we have it...i am losing hair by the handful with this lot.....
Anything even remotely linked might be of some help........
Thanks for the effort..much appreciated.
