I'm looking for the marriage record of Patrick Davock born in 1868 in Blane in Ireland, but probably married in the St Helens area between 1885 to 1895. Can anyone help? I do know that Patrick had a son named John in c1893/94 because I have John's marrage certificate stateing Patrick as his father.

I have only just started to look up my fathers ancestry. He was Charles Barnes and his father, Thomas Barnes married Sabina Davock in 1902. It is such an unusual name that I wonder if she is related to the davock that you are researching. If you have any information I should be grateful if you could pass it on and similarly if I find anything to help you in your search, I will pass it on to you.
Thanks in advance

Hi there,
I'm also looking for Sabina Davock. My great Grandfather's name was Thomas Barnes and his parents were Sabina Davock and Thomas Barnes, who married in 1902. I have found a census entry from 1901 for a Turbinia Davisck, who was living in St Helens with her parents and a Thomas Barnes as a boarder, I suspect that this is the correct family, but I cannot find a listing for the parents, who have stated their birthplace as St Helens on the census. I cannot find any census entries for the family before this, having searched under Davock, Davis and Davisck. Any help would be much appreciated.

My mother has spoken to my Great Grandmother, Mary Barnes. who is Sabina and Thomas's daughter in law. She is now 101 years old. (Thomas Barnes' wife).
Here is the information.
Patrick Davock (Sabina's father), had a shop on a street behind Knowsley Road in St Helens. My great grandmother can remember this, so it must have been after the 1901 census, which lists Patrick Davock's profession as coalminer. She can remember the Davocks being at Grafton Street and Elliot Street. These streets are right next to each other behind Knowsley Road.
I notice from K Davock's other cries for help postings that she or he is also looking for a Patrick Davock from Elliot Street. This could mean that we are all searchnig for the same person. Patrick Davock/Davisck is also listed as having had a son called John Davisck in 1894.
She can remember Sabina and Thomas Barnes living on or near Elliot St in St Helens, this was near Cyril St, which is listed on the 1901 census as the Davisck's/Davock's address.
Sabina had a sister called Ann, who had a daughter called Hannah Chenile (Married Name).
Unfortunately, my great grandmother can't remember Sabina's children (Her husband's cousins)
She can remember that the Davocks were Irish and some of them spoke with Irish accents (She can remember Sabina and Patrick having a bit of an Irish accent).
This is odd, because Patrick and Ellen have stated their place of birth in the 1901 census as St Helens, but it would explain the lack of information about them in previous censuses and the Lancs BMD index.

Patrick and Sabina are most elusive. I have found a Patrick DAVOICK listed in FreeBMD marrying in the December quarter of 1876, in Prescot. I have also found twins Elizabeth and Patrick DAVOICK being born in the December quarter of 1901, also in Prescot. Prescot is the registration district for Eccleston/St. Helens.
I also found Thomas BARNES in 1891, residing at 28, Cyril Street, Eccleston:
Thomas BARNES, head, 42, coal miner, born St. Helens
Susan BARNES, wife, 36, born Ormskirk
John BARNES, son, 17, coal miner, born St. Helens
James BARNES, son, 15, bottlemaker apprentice, born Ince
Thomas BARNES, son, 11, scholar, born St. Helens
William BARNES, son, 9, scholar, born St. Helens
Margaret J. BARNES, dau, 6, scholar, born St. Helens
Henry BARNES, son, 3, born St. Helens
Could this possibly be your DAVOCK family?
Residing at 7, Copperas Street, Eccleston, in 1891:
Patrick DARBUCK, head, 37, general labourer, born Ireland
Ellen DARBUCK, wife, 27, born St. Helens
Ellen DARBUCK, dau, 14, scholar, born St. Helens
Sarah DARBUCK, dau, 8?, scholar, born St. Helens

Hi All
As this is an old post (2002) is there any way that someone can check to se if they are still an active user. It would seam a pity if the original poster missed their chances of finding an up to date contact - just curious.

Surbina Davock was one of eleven children born of Patrick and ellen Davock (formerly Ellen moore/Foster who were one and the same person)
Ellen was also sometimes called Catherine (as indicated by one of the baptismal certificates namaly John Davock born 13/8/1893 records catherine Davock Nee Foster as the mother)
Subina is on the 1901 census as living at Cyril street but under a variant surname Durbina.
D Barnes, ( Durbina) the daughter of Ellen Davock also registered Ellen Davocks death whilst living at 92 Grafton street St Helens.
Surbina Davock was baptised 'Selina Davock' 26/01/1983 and was born on the 7/9/1882.
Patrick Davock, Sabina/Selina/Durbina's father had varinant spellings of the surname Davock namely: Dorlick - 1881 Census
Darbuck - 1881/2 voters register & 1891 Census
Daveux - Baptismal certificate of one of his daughters, Mary Anne
On the 1881 census he was 24 which would make his birth 1856/7
On the 1891 census he was 37 which would make his birth 1853/4
On the 1901 census he was 50 which would make his birth 1850/1
So there is a decrepency of some 7 years in total
The eleven children he had are as follows:-
(These are under the name born of Ellen Moore)
Mary A born 29/6/1880
Selina (your Subina) born 7/9/1882
Elizabeth Ellen born 10/12/1895
Ann Nora born 27/11/1897 - (married John Fishwick in St Teresas Church 17/8/1928)
Patrick born 21/10/1900
Thomas born 28/8/1902
(These are under the name born of Ellen Foster)
Tereasa born 1/2/1885
James born 13/7/1887
louisa born 28/8/1889
Rosanna born 15/11/1891
John born 13/8/1893 ( married Lillian Rose Powell in 1926)
From some of the Baptismal certificates which I have of the above, their mothers maiden name was Hellen (Ellen is a shotenend version)
What is interesting is that from the indicies in the library, Theresa and Louisa's mothers name is Ellen Foster, but the Baptismal certificates give her name as Helen Moore. I've come to the conclusion that Ellen Moore and Ellen Foster are in fact one and the same person. Perhaps her parents weren't married or one of them remarried which could explain the cross over of names?
I have been unable to find the date of marriage between Patrick & Ellen Davock. I also have not found where and when Patrick Davock was born. If any further research is found I would be greatful if you could contact me at keithdavock@metronet.co.uk
(Just incase you are wondering? I was the one who posted the original cry for help back in 2002 when I was with freeserve)
Thanks Keith Davock
PS I would like to thank Anita who did much of the research for me.

Hello Keith,
The marriage I found for Patrick DAVOICK and Sarah Ellen MOORE would look to be your Patrick and Ellen! December 1876, Prescot, 8b, p. 1006.
Good to have all those loose ends tied together, especially as you have a cousin looking for you.
