Foley family history

I am trying to find out more info about my grandfather, William Patrick Foley. He was born in Salford, Manchester in 1872. His father was Patrick Foley but I am unsure as to his mother's name.

Eg. I would like to find out when he left for South Africa. I found a record of him living in Kimberley around 1903 when his first son was born.
Eg. When did his father and mother die?
Eg. When his father come over from Ireland and from where?

Any ideas on where to start?

From this it looks like his parents were still in Ireland in 1861 when Thomas was born but were in Salford by 1868.

Patrick Foley presumably died sometime between 1872 and 1881. You could identify the year and quarter from the GRO Index. You could track his mother, Ann, on the 1891 and 1901 (eventually) censuses and then check the GRO again for her death.

A copy of William Patrick's birth certificate will give you his mother's maiden name.

I have just checked FreeBMD and found a death record for a Patrick Foley who died in the Salford registration district in the June quarter 1874, aged 38.

The reference is Salford 8d 92.

Hope that this is the right one.
